In order to relieve the Siege of Brescia in 1439 the venetians decided to to transport their fleet from the Adriatic into lake Garda, adjacent to Brescia. They transported their fleet upstream and then on a 20km long walk around the mountain. Hundreds of workers and 2000 oxen were used for the job
